The EU Commission has published a call for tender for a fact-finding study to support the development of an EU strategy for freight transport logistics. The call is open until 24/05/2013.

Contract Lot 4 specifically concerns the ex-ante analysis of the follow-up to the Marco Polo programme in the Multiannual Financial Framework 2014-2020.  Marco Polo (2003 – 2013) has been funding direct modal-shift or traffic avoidance projects and providing support to enable freight to switch from road to other modes of transport.

The objective of Contract Lot 4 is to provide the Commission with the necessary information to identify and analyse suitable policy options and their different impacts, in order to support the development of a follow-up to Marco Polo beyond 2013. The aim is to establish a clear business and operational approach for providing efficient, sustainable and international freight transport services, under the Trans-European Transport Network programme and in the framework of the Connecting Europe Facility.

Further information about Contract Lot 4 is available here. A PDF version of the contract is also available on the Marco Polo website http://ec.europa.eu/transport/marcopolo/index_en.htm.
